Jack.org Branksome is part of a national network of students working to change the way we think about mental health. We work within our school to shift negative attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours around mental health, so we can create a safer, more supportive community
Today, we had our first initiative of the year, which was a great success! Several volunteers in the Jack Chapter arrived to school early in the morning to organize t-shirts, sunglasses and bags of Hershey chocolate kisses. 30 minutes before school started, we all stood at the front of the school and greeted students with chocolate kisses, hugs, and affirmations of "yes, we do follow back". Everyone who participated was so enthusiastic to help give out hugs and (chocolate) kisses to raise awareness of Mental Health, but to also create a very warm and positive sense of community. The girls who recieved the (chocolate) kisses and hugs seemed to love the surprising and thoughtful welcome, and we gained several followers on our social media fronts (snapchat & instagram). Overall, it was a lovely and positive way to raise awareness about self-care and the Jack Chapter at BH. We hope our next initiative will be just as great!
